Your class project is to re-create a shirt using the applique technique. The project can be easily modified to be simple and quick, or more elaborate and detailed. The beauty of doing appliqué is that it can be as simple and quick or as elaborate as you like it, and you can and should use materials you may already have. Get creative! To complete your project, we'll cover: Defining & refining personal aesthetic Designing and translating a graphic into simple shapes Design placement Sewing rounded edges Materials needed: Sewing machine and thread (Or needle and thread) Fabric scissors Sewing pins An iron (optional but helpful to have handy) A seam ripper (just in case) Pencil and paper A plain shirt from your wardrobe Fabric scraps (leftovers from an old project, cut up or damaged clothes, towels, curtains, etc.)
